The recent flooding in Southland, has been particularly devastating for Gore and Mataura residents. Milford Sound also experienced significant rain, and it is pleasing to see the highway open again, although tourism has been significantly affected. I take my hat off to these communities who have showed once again what tight knit communities helping each other is all about. It was pleasing to see the Southern Field Days carry on as usual the following week, overcoming at least on the outside any issues that the community was still facing. The coronavirus or covid-19 as it is now called is continuing to impact tourism, the hospitality industry, international students and trade.
