As this year draws to a close, we are looking forward to turning a corner and starting a new year.  Part of this is to provide training and events for your future needs, and our planning for training and events for the new year is well advanced.  We will have an update for you shortly.

We hosted a White Ribbon breakfast in Invercargill with our partners Presbyterian Support Southland and the Invercargill Licensing Trust.

There has been some good news in the past week, with 2000 RSE workers allowed into NZ.  There is also some more support from MSD for New Zealanders to work in seasonal jobs.

We have also welcomed more hospitality and tourism occupations which will be immediately added to the Queenstown Lakes area MSD undersupply and oversupply lists.

The Bill has just been introduced to Parliament to increase sick leave from 5 to 10 days a year.  We will be making a submission on your behalf to the Select Committee process so that they understand the issues some businesses may face when you are not able to absorb or pass on the increased costs.  We are committed to the provision of sick leave but realise that this is going to bring significant additional costs for some businesses.

This year the team is looking forward to a well-earned break, and we are closed from lunchtime on Wednesday 23 December, opening again on 7 January.
