CEO comment 13 April 2021

13 April 2021

Virginia webWe are pleased to be hosting a post-budget update by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, the Hon Grant Robertson.  This will be held in Invercargill on 27 May – we look forward to sharing more information with you shortly.

The recent announcement of a Trans-Tasman travel bubble is welcome news, opening up quarantine-free travel with Australia from 19 April.  In Support of the trans-Tasman bubble a stakeholder pack has been developed on the new travel policy, a comprehensive list of FAQs and a list of resources.

Australia is our second-biggest trading partner and largest international visitor market, accounting for almost half of all visitor arrivals.  As such, this announcement provides a lifeline for struggling local tourism businesses and associated hospitality businesses.  It is important that the bubble system is well-managed to safeguard the health and wellbeing of New Zealanders.

If you have a few moments to do so, we would value your support in filling out this BusinessNZ and Southern Cross Health Society survey.  It looks at the scale of absenteeism in New Zealand, how much employers are doing to assist employees with health and wellness, and whether there are any gaps that can be identified.

We are looking forward to seeing many of you at our Health & Safety Forum in Dunedin and Invercargill next month.  Attendees will enjoy an engaging programme featuring inspiring and expert speakers, who will help us examine the relationship between wellbeing and the workplace.

And finally, our regular reminder that you can stay up-to-date on all things Covid-19 on our Helpful Covid-19 Resources page.  If you have any queries, you can phone us on 0508 656 757 and we can assist.

As always, if you have any questions or comments, please do let me know.

Ngā mihi nui \ with kind regards,
